Email where every sender is a real, verified person

Ordinary email lets anyone write to you under any name. That is why spam, phishing and fraud work. On SMail an address belongs to a person, professional or organisation whose identity was checked in person by an accredited partner on TrustChain. When a message arrives, you know who sent it.

No passwords, ever

You sign in with your TrustChain wallet, which proves your verified name. There is no password to steal, guess or reset. Add a passkey and your fingerprint signs you in.

Encrypted end to end

Every message and document is sealed on your phone or computer before it leaves. SMail stores ciphertext only. Nobody at SMail, and no one in between, can read it.

Leave with everything

Export all your mail and documents, built on your own device. Delete your account with a confirmation from your wallet. Your address stays yours.

How SMail works

  1. Get a TrustChain wallet. It is free. Your identity is checked once, in person, from your national ID, Maisha card, passport or refugee ID.
  2. Sign in to SMail. Your wallet shows what SMail will see (your verified name, nothing else) and you approve. No password.
  3. Choose your address. [email protected], taken once and reserved for you.
  4. Write to anyone. Members get sealed mail. People off SMail get a secure link, or plain email if you switch it on.

Made for Kenya, built on TrustChain

SMail runs on TrustChain, self-sovereign identity infrastructure for Kenya: citizens hold their credentials in their own wallet, institutions sign them, and anyone can check them on a public registry. Your ID number and date of birth stay in your wallet. SMail never sees them.

Professionals and organisations can show a badge from a credential in their wallet: a licence, a degree, a membership. SMail keeps only the credential type, its issuer and a fingerprint, and checks it again every hour.

For organisations

Staff email that proves who they are. Officers set the organisation's trust policy, shared mailboxes, retention and legal holds, and escrow that only several officers together can open, in the open. Nobody reads a member's mail alone.

Common questions

What is SMail?
SMail (Sovereign Mail) is an email service where every sender is a verified person, professional or organisation. You sign in with your TrustChain wallet instead of a password, and every message is encrypted on your device before it is sent.
Do I need a password?
No. There is no SMail password to make, remember or lose. Your TrustChain wallet signs you in by proving your verified name. On a phone or computer you can add a passkey, so your fingerprint, face or screen lock signs you in next time.
How do I get a TrustChain wallet?
The TrustChain wallet is free. You sign up with your legal name as on your ID, and an accredited identity partner checks your document in person. After that, your wallet holds your identity credential and you can sign in to SMail.
Can people on Gmail or other email write to me?
Yes, if you keep the legacy gateway open. Mail from ordinary email lands in a separate External tray, marked as unverified, with links disabled until you choose to open them. You can block any address or domain, or close the gateway entirely.
